The data destruction industry has four basic methods for erasure of data from of computer Hard Drives. 4PRL will advise, manage, oversee, or direct any degree of secured data destruction depending on the degree of security you require. Below you will find many popular data destruction techniques, but only one renders your data irretrievable.
· Disk Shredding or Disk Crushing – This is the most secure of all data destruction methods, and will render all data irretrievable. Studies indicate that Shredding and Crushing are more effective than Degaussing. HD Crushing and or Shredding ensure that confidential information remains confidential by destroying it permanently. After using this method, data can never be recovered again. As your custodian for guaranteeing the most effective method for HD data destruction, 4PRL recommends this method for highly sensitive data destruction. Currently this is the latest industry process for rendering data unrecoverable. Shredding or crushing will destroy a disk and the data on it in just seconds, without the need of a peripheral PC or workstation. This process chews through the hard disk's spindles and physically creates ripples and breaks in the platters making it impossible to recover the data. 4PRL’s Data destruction 3PL partner is bonded to perform this destruction procedure. This process is simple, fast, and the most effective method in the industry. This process is faster than Degaussing, Drilling, and Reformatting, yet the most effective.
· Degaussing – Once thought to be the most secure and surest method in the industry, it has been recently proven that degaussers don't always work. New disks have such strong shielding that the magnetic oersteds used to destroy the data can only achieve a high enough field intensity to destroy the read-write arm. Therefore, it's often possible to remove the platters, put them in new disk housing with a new read-write arm, and read the data that you thought you had destroyed. Unfortunately, due to new disk shielding technologies, degaussers have become unreliable.
· Disk Reformatting - Though reformatting a disk can wipe out the data, reformatting a disk is very time consuming. It can take hours to reformat one disk. And the system reformatting the disk needs to be operational. This is very difficult to do when most Diebold Hard drives are returned to the scrapper already removed from the operating system.
· Drilling – Studies have indicated that intelligence exists today that can recreate what was lost in the small hole that was created by drilling.
